Evil: Seeking to perfect perfection

Matthew 6:25-34

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

God created everything to work perfectly without any help from humans. The planets and moons of the solar system never fall out of place, the heart pumps regularly, the lungs function on their own, cells divide to into various systems to create a living thing, and the plants grow and die and grow again all without the influences of humans. So, why do humans think they can make things better that the greatest artist, inventor of all, God?

As crazy as this may sound, is it possible, that if humans let go of their control over everything, the world would work in perfect synchronization or harmony? Isn’t it probable there would be enough food and water for everyone? That no one would be starving? Since everything else works perfectly well without human input, isn’t it likely then that God created the earth to provide for all the things every human would need to survive?  

Ask yourself: “If everything works perfectly (solar system, circulatory system, digestive system, migration of birds, seasons), what would life be like if we were to just let go of the control we think we need to have on everything?” If we humans stopped trying to make things ‘better’ than God made things, how beautiful would our lives be? Is that the new Heaven and new Earth?

The Garden of Eden had every green herb for food (Genesis1:30) and God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food (Genesis 2:9). Further in Genesis (2:16-17) it says: And the Lord God commanded the man, saying “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

First question: Why would God put a tree in the Garden of Eden that would be a constant temptation to eat from? This is highly unlikely, God is love and this seems more like something a human would do in order to scam somebody out of something.

Second question: Is it possible that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is really a metaphor? What if the good was all the things God created to work perfectly; and the evil was humans changing things because we think we can make improvements on perfection? In other words: Evil is seeking to perfect perfection. Good was always present and God was saying do not try to improve what He had created because it would destroy the systems. Evil (destruction of:  the ecosystem, relationships, life, love) was present once man tried to perfect the Garden (garden being the world God had created). Maybe we just need to stop trying to fix or improve what is not broken—God’s creation and God will come back and walk with us in the Garden. Let us allow everything to grow back to its natural/original state and stop controlling God's creation. Unconditional love.

Venting

The other day I went to the Small Business Administration Department to get advice on starting a business. The gentleman said my idea was great--there was definitely a market for the service I want to offer. Afterwards, I went to a small town and called the phone number of a leasing company for a price range of commercial rental space. The least expensive quote was $4.50 per square foot. Based on a small 1000 ft. property, the monthly rent would be $4,500/month or $54,000 a year in rent.

I was outraged! So if someone is trying to start a business, before any other expense they have to make $54,000 a year just to cover the rent. Is there any wonder why birthday and greeting cards cost so much? Yet, there are empty commercial properties all over the place. Wouldn't it make more sense to charge less for rental of four walls and parking than to not be collecting any money? If the rent was less expensive, then prices for the American consumer would be lower. Maybe the average American would be better off financially and more individuals would be able to start a business.
